Fantastic Fall - A Favorite Time of Year

A Fall Day in Maine is Time Well Spent
Seems these days, everyone has a lot going on - and time is flying by!

Welcoming you to our Ogunquit hotel & resort by the seaAs this issue is written, Gordy, our 15 foot hayman, is back to welcome you to Ogunquit and we are getting ready for the Great Pumpkin Contest - wonder who will have the lucky guess this year!

Scarecrows and cornstalks line the streets for OgunquitFest and HarvestFest - some of Southern Maine's best fall festivals. Our many off season packages (Check them out online)  arrive just in time. November will bring our holiday shopping deals and December arrives with Christmas Prelude and Christmas by the Sea. Then another year will pass with our annual celebration of New Year's Eve.

Fall festivals in Maine - OgunquitFest & HarvestFestHarvestFest and OgunquitFest are top picks for fall destinations
  • HarvestFest features a real Native Indian Pow Wow, classic car show, homemade kettle corn, craft show, hayrides and the famous Sidewalk Sale at Short Sands Beach. Events kick off  Friday night with the second annual Lobsterfest under the tent at the ballpark at York Beach. Saturday try your luck at the Corn Toss Challenge and enjoy the Pumpkins Stroll. Sunday is all about the Classic Cars and Pow Wow - Grab some kettle corn and enjoy! Held October 15-17. Resort, dining and spa stays all available. See the events.
     
  • OgunquitFest caps off a month long Scarecrow Contest (Go Gordy!) with outrageous fun. Start with a scary good time at the Haunted House and Ghostly Tours on Friday. Get your spirits up early on Saturday for the car show, pumpkin decorating and Heels for Health High Heel Race. At night, try your luck for Casino Night. And on Sunday, get ready - the Bridge to Beach Bed Race returns where costumes and bedlam hit the road! See the events. 
A Real Maine Treat - Zach's Corn Maze
  • Zach's Farm has been growing delicious corn and veggies for many moons. Each year, their famous cornfield transforms into Zach's Corn Maze. From Stonewall Kitchen to The Shark, many incredible designs have been carved into the cornstalks. A fun family treat, visit Zach's off Route 91 in York and see if you can make it through this year's maze! See the maze.

  • Columbus sailed the ocean blue - so naturally seaside is the best place to be this holiday weekend. Fireworks kick off the holiday Friday night and Jonathan's Concerts feature Enter the Haggis on October 9th and Suede on October 11th.  Tom  Dean joins us in the West Meadow Pub Saturday October 10th and the Ogunquit Playhouse is All Shook Up with Sally Struthers and company singing the tunes of Elvis. Set sail for Ogunquit on Columbus Day!

Stonewall Kitchen's Apple Cheddar Crisp - A Tasty Fall Treat
Cool nights, crisp days all mean it's time for good homemade pies. There's nothing like the smell of fresh apples and scent of baking in the air. This time, we've turned to our friends at Stonewall Kitchen for sweet and tart autumn classic.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 7 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 13oz jar Stonewall Kitchen Orange Cranberry Marmalade
Topping:Stonewall Kitchen's Marmalades & Jams - Great baking ingredients!
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese 
  • 1 cup cold butter

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Place all ingredients, except topping, in a bowl and mix together.
  2. Transfer mixture to a 13x 9 baking pan
  3. Prepare topping by placing all dry ingredients in a bowl, including shredded cheese, and then add butter, cutting it in with a pastry blender or two knives.
  4. When well blended and crumbly, sprinkle topping on the apples and bake in a 350-degree overn for 45 minutes.
  5. Serve warm topped with ice cream or whipped cream.
SERVES: 8
